So i’m counting down the minutes until Big Day Out tickets go on sale. I don’t want to miss out on them like I did when tickets for Falls sold out in like 5 minutes. It’s not all bad tho, i managed to get tickets for Pyramid Rock and Soundwave. So if I add BDO to the list i’ll have the thrice festival wise. I know you’re jealous.

Now how bout some discussion about them seeing as i can’t write three lines and say finish.

Well BDO was rumoured to have the likes of Bowie, Blink, and Placebo headlining and I kind of lost my shit. So naturally i was let down when the only huge band to be announced was MUSE and Powderfinger (huge AUSTRALIAN band). But there’s a 2nd announcement so hopefully there’ll be a few more suprises. With other medium acts like Rise Against, Peaches (what an orgasm would sound like if it was a performer) amongst others and smaller acts like Bluejuice it should be a pretty rocking day

Now for Pyramid. I started considering Pyramid when Falls sold out and i wasn”t that pumped but i got tickets anyway. But now i’m psyched due to their 2nd lineup announcement. It started out being Empire of the Sun, The Cat Empire and The Butterfly Effect being the local big acts with Architecture In Helshink getting a mention in there. Then Grinspoon and Biffy Clyro were added along with a whole other butt load with awesomely small acts British India and Red Riders getting me especially excited. But with the extensive artist list and New Years Eve much drunken fun will be had.

And last but certainly not least Soundwave.Let’s do it short and sweet

Geez 5:22 AM in the morning. I think i prefer the hiptop time of 4:22 scrap that 4:23. Why am I up at this bitching hour? It could be the many months of working as a nightfill vampire, me not having any fucking work til Wednesday or my current caffeine addiction in the form of Red Bull. Starting to blank in and out now. slight urge to vomit. that’s probably the result of a 2 o’clock maccas run with the wife which entailed me leaping back over my fence with a considerable amout of saturated fat in my body.

oh and that’s the other thing, i’m annorexic. it’s all the rage in milan at the moment so i thought why the hell not. whoop another blank. so how bout an update on how i’m spending my gap year ey. sounds good. Well as usual it’s fucking pathetic. i’m working all days at the moment on a 32 hour a week contract. looks alright on the outside but it’s actually worse than before. i get paid less to work more hours doing a job i hate. so pretty much it’s a little taste of what i’ll be doing once i’m older but on a considerabely smaller paycheck and having to come home every night to face another barrage of abuse from the rents. with topics including how i waste all my money, not participate in family activities, why i don’t eat right and various other Dr. Phil topics. It used to get to me a bit at first but after a while it’s no different from when my dickhead boss rips me for wearing the wrong shoes to work. i guess i’m just plain not happy. this job. this town. this house. can’t wait to cut loose. these days it seems like my best times are those spend looking at the bottom of an empty bottle.

on a more up beat note i’ve got tickets to soundwave, pyramid and probably BDO and 4 redbulls left in the fridge which should get me through the next 2 days.

I just worked out that I can blog from my phone, awesome I know. I finally get to make use of the keyboard that it has. oh and it’s not a girly hiptop either. it’s a manly Palm. they decided to sponsor me because my writing style is so refined. so today has been pretty good so far, I managed to rise at a reasonable time (mainly to watch spongebob squarepants). I even went down the street for a jaunt and came back with cheap cd and dvds: Cat Stevens – Teaser and the Firecat, Training Day and Trainspotting. i’ll give you the lowdown on how they pan out over the next couple of days.
oh and for all the fans out there that want to know what i’ve been listening to i’ll drop a few names and albums for you to get onto. i’m still going with the new one from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs: It’s Blitz with Zero and Dull life stuck in my head. with a new album from Placebo around the corner (and a new single out now) I thought that i’d better scrub up on their back catalog so I got ahold of Without You I’m Nothing and the rest of Meds I didn’t already have. I highly recommend you download every single from it but before you do that make sure you get Follow the Cops Back Home, it’s the shit (and tell me where i’ve heard it before cos i’m stumped).

oh and i’ve picked up guitar again. i’m currently learning the acoustic version of Alive With the Glory of Love on my electric and I learnt Lenny Kravitz’s Fly Away on acoustic guitar (just to be different)

Well hasn’t it been a long time since I’ve updated this thing. To all those hardcore followers out there (I’m sure there’s a few) that havn’t been able to live with themselves during my untimely absence I have a legitimate excuse for ‘going ot for a pack of cigarettes and not coming back’. I had poured my soul into the second part of my soundwave blog and when i went to publish it wordpress had like a war flashback, shat itself and deleted all but a few lines of it. So i thought ok, I’ll fix it later. this went on for about a week and then after that i couldn’t be stuffed rewriting it at all so I sort of just left it. A big ‘SORRY’ to those that weren’t able to get their fix and if you email me i’ll gladly send you a personally signed headshot to make up for it.

Now that the formalities have been taken care of I can get down to the ‘nitty gritty’. A fair bit of stuff has happened in the couple of months I wasn’t here, and i’ll bring you up to speed in point form.

-My iPod broke and I managed to fix it myself

Well that’s the big stuff anyway. Now that you’re up to date I can write about other stuff of interest to you. Um let’s see… Oh! I’ve got an idea, a music update sounds good.

Before I left I think was listening to The Flaming Lips, Rise Against and a bit of Paramore. They’re still getting air time on the iPod and i’ve picked up a few new bands aswell as rekindled some old ones. On the recommendation of RYM Ive got a hold of their no.1 album of 2009 so far: Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective. I’ve been giving it a bit of a listen so far and it’s coming along ok. With my extensive background in psychedelic music i’ve warmed up to it. Pearljam also re-released their debut Ten. I only knew a few songs (Betterman is my personal fave) and had liked all of them so I went out and bought the physical album for once. It’s been pumping in the car’s CD player while I’ve been cruising around trying not to crash and for once the remastered version isn’t half bad.

Recently though Ten has been given the flick as no.1 preference in the car to Yellowcard. I started listening to them again after watching Big Fish and being reminded of their song How I Go from Lights And Sounds which was written about the movie. So as I listened to it I got an urge for more violin riffs so I pumped up their previous album Ocean Avenue which is one of my all time favourites. I highly recommend you download it/ go out and buy it because it is pure magic and I don’t say that often about an album. So having Yellowcard on the brain I got ahold of their most recent release Paper Walls (which is playing at the moment, 10 of 14 the iPod says) and i’m thoroughly enjoying it after having it as background noise in the car. It’s such a shame they’re on indefinite hiatus but hopefully they’ll need beer money and get back together. Maybe it’s for the best? But they’re definetely a band worth a listen.

What else have I been doing? Not a whole lot really. I’ve worked out a new sleep cycle that falls in line with work. I go to bed around 3 and rise around 12-2. It’s quite good because i’m not a morning person. Oh i’ve taken up reading again. I picked up a copy of Ocsar Wilde’s ‘The portrait of Dorian Grey’ in Borders in lieu of a way epensive architecture book and the dose of literature has been doing me good. I think i’m smarter already and i’m only up to chapter II (that’s 2 in regular number).

With the wordcount spanning more than 700 words now I think I shall tie things up. Have a good one

After that I think it was ice cream and rest time. By then the temperature was around 35 and I felt like melting.  After an extensive break and another drinks stop and a pot of gold later and a band or two it was time to line up for the Say Anything

Up early last Friday to catch the train to Melbourne at six fucking twenty in the morning.  After staying up until around 2 i the morning watching a movie it was a decent effort on my part. On the way up I encountered the usual train folk, babies screaming, some weird couple that insisted on sitting right next to and on the seat across from me and deciding to swap seats at regular intervals because it wasn’t weird enough just fondling each other with me there cowering in my seat. I was sure glad to be off that train, with my virginity barely intact. Now this was at around 10:00 so I had a bit of time to spare until I had to rock up at soundwave. What better way is there to pass time than getting a 7/11 breakfast that consisted of a slurpee and batteries for my camera?

Back to Flinders to get the train up the the showgrounds and I was glad I chose to wear a white tshirt because the temperature was getting higher and everyone knows that black material absorbs more heat (the vast majority of soundwave goers had neglected this thought). After finally rocking up to soundwave after a lot of train hopping I met up with a few mates underneath the big pie statue (??) and deciding to rock the merchandise line for a while. Realising that Goldfinger were about to come on I had to hightail it over to Stage 1 and begin rocking out. Being a bit of a newcomer to the moshpit I soon got up to speed with all the lingo and how not to be crushed. It was a fucking awesome show with the highlights being a guy eating a twinkie out of the drummers ass (true story) and my first circle pit and wall of death (protip – run directy behind someone in the wall of death so they take all the punches). It was a pretty good setlist with the final two songs (Superman and 99 Red Balloons) being the best. Halfway through 99 red balloons there was a bit of an opening in the crowd where I was and I found myself being propositioned by this real big punk dude if I wanted to go ‘up’. Who was I to deny a chance to pop my crowd surfing cherry so up I went. Everyone should try it at least one because it rocked and because it was towards the end I didn’t have to brave the large crowds leaving the stage area.

After lining up for signing tickets I went and braved the drinks line for 20 mins then discovering the ’shower’ I had a good wet down before braving the Forever The Sickest Kids crowd and getting the dirtiest of looks of all these chicks because I pushed past them interupting their orgasm in search of my friends. After that it was time to line up to see Goldfinger in person. I made a few friends in the line with my cunning ability to join in with their emo bashing. The guys from Goldfinger were top blokes and I asked the drummer what it was like getting a twinkie eaten out of his ass. He said it felt cool.

It’s been a while since i’ve contributed to the blogosphere so I thought I might rip out a bit of typing and upload some awesomeness. And in my absence I have been out achieving amazing feats of greatness in my life that in time I will regale you with.

Now let’s jump into it, I just have to decide what to brush over first. Oh I know

First music concert/festival coming up for the year on Friday, yep i’m going to Soundwave. Can’t wait to see my highlight of the day: Say Anything. Aswell as Houston Calls, Goldfinger and loads more. I know what you’re thinking, that’s pretty awesome already. But it gets better. Next Tuesday I will be rocking out to Coldplay with the infamous Bordy brothers. My life is looking pretty awesome at the moment hey.

Now it gets even better. I have also scored a job at Safeway doing nightfill (but i’ll have some day shifts so i’m not a complete vampiric god). I had my induction (fancy word for training) today. It was 8 hours of sitting in a room being told how to wash my hands and how not to sell alcohol to under 18s. I was paid for it though so I guess it was alright.

After over 5 years of being stuck with a set of bunks (double on bottom, guitar/drunk friend storage on top) I finally upgraded to a Queen sized bed. Wanna come test it out? Seriously it’s a fair decent bed.

I got a new phone too so I can blog on the go now, so you’ll be even more up to date with my life! It’s not an iphone but it still kicks ass. It’s like the Rolling Stones to the Beatles, better.

And after my everlasting quest to be up with all the latest music technology I have upgraded to a record player. I know you guys might not have heard of it yet but this thing has game. Awesome crisp sound quality and you’ll fall in love with the smell of vinyl

Lots of things happened recently, so i’ll stop here to let it all sink in.

Has anyone noticed that the ants like coming out to scavange food more-so in the hot weather than in the cold? Well they have, and you notice things like this a whole lot when you’re unemployed. And you also get overly pumped for minute events such as you waking up in time to watch Spongebob Squarepants (which is an awesome show). It’s been pretty barmy lately, so i’ll let you in on some unexpectedly air conditioned places:

1. The gym – In exchange for making yourself all puffed and hot you get to experience coolth while doing it.

2. The Bendigo Bank – This one hit me for six. It is amazingly cold in there, I encourage everyone to bank in the middle of the day.

3. Any butchers shop – Another advantage of not being a vegetarian is that you get to walk into these places. Plus the smell is tops as well (might just be that the yugos owned a butcher shop once apon a time).

Seinfeld is on at 11:30 so i’d better start wrapping up. According to the last sensus 18.4% of young Aussies are Atheists. Watch out JC, we’ve got you in our sites.

Well, the news in is. I am now officially a student of the University of Melbourne. The other day I logged on and deferred my place until next year. What course did I get into might you ask? Medicine combined with criminal law with some rocket science on the side. Na just joking. It’s called environments and in entails learning about things like buildings, designing things and other smart person stuff. Melbourne Uni also got wind of this blog and they thought it was so good they threw me a couple of scholarships. But I don’t have to worry about that stuff until next year. I’m more focused on getting a job right now, but due to this thing called an ‘economic downturn’ there arn’t many of ‘em around. But despite my lack of employment i’ve still managed to keep busy. You know how some people say that they’re gonna join a gym and ‘reclaim’ the fit person underneath their husky sheath of a body, well I actually did it and furthermore I actually like it. All except that damn ab-master. That has to be one of the toughest things i’ve ever done in my life. Which also reflects my amount of fitness. I’ll keep you updated on my progress

I’ve also been keeping busy by reading a new webcomic. It’s called Questionable Content by a guy called Jeph Jacques. The story centers around this guy called Martin but expands to include his friends too. You also learn a fair bit about the different types of subcultures that the kids are into these days as characters in the comic range from goths to yokels to indy hipsters. I highly suggest you start from the beginning and read through up until now because the storyline’s quite complicated. It took me around a week or so but I thoroughly enjoyed it. What’s even better is that this guy manages to update it every week day and the artwork looks like it must take at least three to do.

My iPod was nearly completely maxed out today before I deleted a whole heap of videos to make room for all the music i’ve been downl…buying from reputable retail outlets at the reccomended retail price. This influx of new tunes started when I heard The Flaming Lips being quotes in Questionable Content. As a bit of a stab in the dark I decided to get a few (it ended up around 5) of their albums to listen to. After listening to (and adding to my favourite bands list) I took another few tips from the comic such as The Arcade Fire and Interpol and both paid off alright. And while I was at it I thought that I’d get some of Paramore and Jimmy Eat World’s backlist after thrashing out their songs on Guitar Hero. And after hearing that Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland was meant to be one of the best albums of all time from Rate Your Music (this awesomer site that last.fm that has way better music reviews because it’s arisen from people with good taste and doesn’t just center on pop and is a must checkout for anybody that has a half decent music collection) I thought i’d download it and Are You Experienced? and Axis: Bold As Love just to be on the safe side. Axis: Bold As Love was also what I was listening to while writing the top part of this blog before it finished. Oh by the way feel free to ask me to hook you up with some tunes from any of these bands or anything else, that’s just what good bloggers do.

I should have told you in advance that this blog was going to be long but it didn’t occur to me until I realised that it was over 600 words and nearly 3 AM. Oh well. Sorry for all the plugs as well but it I assure you that they were all earned and it’s been a while since i’ve reviewed anything. I’m off to listen to the rest of the Paramore album ( RIOT! if you must know) I put on to fell the silence that Hendrix left. Hoo Roo!

Air Hockey is better than table tennis. Strange introductory statement I know but it’s true. It’s much faster and the noises are much cooler. So that’s why Air Hockey deserves to be in the Olympics and table tennis doesn’t. Now that i’ve got that off my back I can begin to telling you all about my usual awesomeness.

During the week I think of all these good things to put in here but for some reason when I boot up and log on my mind goes blanker than classroom of students at Bairnsdale Secondary College. So i’ll continue along this trainweck which this blog is. I’ve been playing the new Grand Theft Auto this week in lieu of finding employment and I think i’m all the better for it. I’ve learnt important skills such as extortion, theft, drug smuggling and how to boost a car. With these newly acquired attributes i’m gonna start up my own posse. Anyone wanting a career in organised crime should email me with their details.

With Easter right around the corner our good friends at our major supermarket chains have started selling hot cross buns so we can get in a few practice Easters before the main thing. Why don’t they sell them all year round? I’m sure it would be a popular choice. One might even go as far as to say that this decision would be so popular that it would cause the conflict in Gaza to completely disintegrate and everyone would be happy. If that did happen I couldn’t ignore the irony in that a commercialisation of a religious holiday actually made the world a better place and not the religion itself.
